Prof. Dr.
Kerstin Lopatta

Professor of Business Administration, in particular external accounting, auditing and sustainability
Prof. Dr. Kerstin Lopatta holds the Chair of Accounting, Auditing and Sustainability at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg. She has worked for a Big 4 auditing firm and has spent several years as an international visiting researcher, including at the City University of Hong Kong and at New York University, Stern School of Business.

In her research, Kerstin Lopatta empirically examines the effects of environmental, social and governance factors on companies and society. She also analyzes the influence of financial accounting standards on corporate decisions. Her academic work has been published in high-ranking international journals such as The Accounting Review, Strategic Management Journal and European Accounting Review.

Kerstin Lopatta is a member of the Supervisory Board and the Audit Committee of Freenet AG, EUROKAI GmbH & Co. KGaA and EQS Group AG, where she is also Chair of the Audit Committee. She is a member of the Sustainability Reporting Committee of the DRSC, Vice Chair of the EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board and a member of the Sustainable Finance Advisory Board of the German Federal Government.

Prof. Dr.
Alexander Bassen

Professor of Business Administration, in particular Capital Markets & Corporate Management
Prof. Dr. Alexander Bassen is Full Professor of Capital Markets and Corporate Management at the University of Hamburg, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

He teaches in the areas of investment and finance as well as sustainable finance and accounting. He is a member of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) and an observer on the German government’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Council. He was also a member of the EFRAG Project Task Force EU Sustainability Reporting Standard (PTF ESRS), the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) and the G7 Impact Task Force.

He is also an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Oxford (Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment) and a Visiting Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University and Henley Business School (Reading, UK).
He also heads the BMBF accompanying project “Sustainable Finance and Climate Protection” (SFCP), which comprises 14 projects from various universities. He is also a member of several advisory committees for sustainable finance.

Projects & Mandates

For many years, we have been working with companies, the financial industry and politicians on the implementation of sustainable finance. We are also involved in many initiatives on a voluntary basis with a great deal of personal commitment, as social change can only be achieved if we move outside our comfort zone.
